Having been a trainer myself in the past I found that I no longer had the time to provide the training needs of managers and supervisory staff because of the multitude of other pressing responsibilities. Realizing this, it was determined that we would need to seek external consultants to provide the needed training. We defined our specific training needs and established a number of requirements that our trainers would have to bring to Mauna Loa. We needed to engage consultants that had expertise in managerial concepts and issues, were knowledgeable about the latest training methodologies, had the ability to establish rapport with a wide cross section of various educational and cultural backgrounds, and most importantly, the ability to translate key theoretical concepts and enable staff to apply those concepts into the real world work environment.
